Mother’s Day has come and gone and many a cheer, good wishes and/or tears were probably had.I found an interesting scenario came my way which lost a sale for a supermarket and prompted me to let you know about it so you do not make this mistake in your business.I had organised to take my 83 year old mother out to lunch and thought it would be nice to take her a bunch of flowers too.I went into my local supermarket and there near the front door were arrangements of flowers especially assembled for the special day. They were beautifully presented in a stack which reminded me of the old days when supermarkets took pride in their displays. These days all you normally see at the front of a supermarket are piles of toilet paper or soft drink boxes. (But I digress).
The flowers lit up the entrance and you had no choice but to stop and admire. But I was there to buy, not admire and with earnest I perused the display looking for a bunch which would adorn my mother’s kitchen table. Now I don’t know about you but I do not buy flowers very often so I was also looking at prices. Or trying to.I scoured the pots. I scoured the plastic wrappings. I looked for a sign yet at this supermarket I could see no prices. So I did something which I shouldn’t have had to do…”Oh, the prices?” the disinterested lass at the counter mirrored back to me.”Just check the coloured dot on the pot.”
“All flowers are coloured coded for prices.””When you find a bunch you like go over there, (pointing) check out the coloured dot on your pot and match it to the sign and you will find the price.”I thought”What?””I have to walk fifteen paces each time to check out the price?”I looked bemused at this extraordinary, unnecessary act and finally had to say,”Why can’t the sign with prices be here?”And more importantly for people like me “Why can’t the prices be attached on each bunch?” “It would be simpler.”I was thinking someone took the time to colour code the pots, why couldn’t they just price them?Anyway, Miss Disinterested just shrugged off my unwelcomed questions, as if they were said by her father.
This in turn made me do something too.Keep my wallet in my pocket and walk out.So the point I am trying to make and help you with is.Don’t make it hard for people to give you money.Go through your sales processes and see if you can improve them.People will buy when they are ready – make sure you are ready too.Need a hand with your email marketing in your business. You know where I am.I hope you were able to make someone happy yesterday too.My mother did get her flowers and lunch and a present, all supplied by my brother #1. My job in the end was to spend a terrific 3 hours with her.
